Description:
For the students majoring in engineering or science, this course is designed to present the fundamentals of chemistry and demonstrate their application through lecture and problem solving. Topics include: measurements, atomic theory, chemical reaction, equations and stoichiometry, solutions and solution stoichiometry, gases and their properties, quantum theory, the periodic table, bonding theories, oxidation-reduction reaction, an introduction to thermochemistry. Students without prior chemistry courses are urged to take CHEM 1101 and CLAB 1101 prior to enrolling in CHEM 1121. Prerequisite: MATH 1113 or passing score on the Math Placement Examination (MPE). Corequisite: CLAB 1121.
