The purpose of this didactic course is to prepare the Gerontological Nurse Practitioner/Adult Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (GNP/APNP) student with a knowledge base for identifying and implementing appropriate health promotion and disease prevention strategies with older adults. The focus is on the advanced practice nursing of older adults in multiple health care settings. Emphasis is placed on health promotion/disease prevention and related health issues with strategic planning at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels of prevention. Various issues are explored which are pertinent to the advanced practice role.
