Description:
Music theory is a highly specialized study within the field of acoustics (the study of sound) and this course will deal with the fundamentals of music including properties of single sounds -- pitch, duration, timbre, and those of collections of sounds --acoustics, intervals, scales, modes (Keys), melody, harmony, rhythm and analysis. The course will also include aural skills such as sight singing ear training, improvisation and aural analysis of form as well as some keyboard skills. Some prior knowledge of music theory is recommended.
