This course will follow the birth and development of a specifically feminist artistic practice from the 1970's to nowadays, seen in the context of the evolving debate on women's identity in North and South America and in Europe. It will offer a first introduction to the way in which contemporary debates on the role of women in society have affected not only the creative production of women artists but also the categories that they used to define themselves. The course will be based on readings, presentations and discussion of the artworks, manifestoes and critical interpretations that have shaped the cultural and artistic debate on female identity in the last thirty years.
