This eleven (11) week special topics course will introduce students to the legal issues impacting the health care industry, one of the most highly-regulated industries in the Unites States. The objective of the course is to provide students with the skills necessary to assist lawyers in the health care field, whether in the law firm or corporate setting. Areas of emphasis will include health care delivery and administration, compliance, fraud and abuse, data privacy and security the physician/patient relationship, and ethical decision making. Specific emphasis will be placed on the recently enacted Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, which significantly reformed the American health care industry.
