This course provides an introduction to the basic principles of public health, and the public health delivery system. It is intended to familiarize students with the basic principles and applications of epidemiological concepts in the study of disease occurrence in populations. Students will learn about the concept of public health, major community health problems and needs, and the importance of health promotion and disease prevention concepts, theories and services. Students will learn about the pharmacist's role as a public health professional and how we in many instances pharmacists are the most logical choice in the evaluation of outcomes of health promotion and disease prevention services. The roles and responsibilities of pharmacy within the health care system, and its interaction with other health occupations are discussed.
