The principal purpose of the class is to develop, analyze, and test Catholic political thought as an international relations theory. Specifically, how does Catholic thought provide unique insight into explaining key dimensions of international politics? How well does Catholic international relations theory help us understand major international events? What are the strengths and weakness of this approach in comparison to others? Prominent subjects studied will be the origins of various wars and the effectiveness of Catholic strategies of conflict resolution, as well as natural law, a Biblical understanding of human nature, pacifism, Just War Theory, and humanitarian intervention.
