This course is a general introduction to the history and theorization of the French novel from its precursory prose antecedents to contemporary examples. Students will gain greater knowledge of France’s literary tradition as well as familiarity with the principal techniques of literary analysis. The course is open to all students with an interest in literature, regardless of mastery of the French languages. Readings, lectures and discussions will be in English.
