American federalism looked at through the prism of the distribution of jurisdiction between Federal and State Courts; examination is also made of advantages and disadvantages of the choice of a federal forum over a state forum and vice-versa. The course examines the recent phenomenon of large scale litigation-the mass tort-such as asbestos and cigarette liability cases.
