This is a skills course which examines the various federal and Pennsylvania state laws that address the legal rights of persons with physical, mental, and sensory disabilities--one of the newest and most rapidly developing areas of the law in this country. Particular attention will be given to the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Fair Housing Housing Amendments Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and how these laws address disability-based discrimination in the areas of employment, housing and independent living, public accommodation, accessibility, governmental services, education, health care, and insurance. This is a Pass/Fail course.
