The fundamental principles and concepts of chemistry are presented from a molecular standpoint. The basic concepts of bonding, molecular structure, intermolecular forces, thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, and equilibrium and introduced with relevant biological and environmental examples. A discovery-based approach format is used in the laboratory. Toledo Placement exam is required. Prerequisite: permission of instructor. Lecture, three hours; laboratory three hours; recitation, two hours.
