This course will help students focus on the role occupational therapy plays in working with older adults and families across the continuum of care. Students will learn the influence aging processes has on physical, sensory, and cognitive functions and their relationship to functional capabilities. Psychosocial aspects of aging and how environment, culture, and values impact lifestyle and occupational performance will be discussed. Theories, issues, and clinical skills specific to practice in geriatric rehabilitation, home health care, long term care, adult day care programs, and community practice, including wellness and prevention programs, are addressed.
