This course examines the nature and extent of poverty in the United States, including the causes of poverty, poverty measurement, and beginning intervention strategies for individuals, communities, and professionals. Students will analyze a framework for understanding socio-economic diversity, and use the strengths perspective to improve instruction and service delivery to populations in need. This course is appropriate for anyone working with people in generational poverty, including those in the fields of education, human services, criminal justice, and the health care professions.
