Students will build reading strategies to include scanning, skimming, and clustering techniques. Skills in identifying topics, main ideas, supporting ideas, and making basic inferences will be developed. Coursework will include building passive and active vocabulary from context, introduction of world families, distinguishing fact and opinion, understanding vocabulary from context clues, decoding skills, and recognizing transitions. This course is intended for students with a greater level of proficiency in a language other than English. Course Requirements: TOEFL, Accuplacer, and/or interview.
