This course will be a study and celebration of major women writers whose works will be read and examined in terms of their historical, social, and cultural importance in the development of fiction. This course is gender-based focusing on the novels of women writers and the particular themes found in women’s literature. Works studied include 19th and 20th century authors, Mary Shelley, Charlotte Bronte, Kate Chopin, Zora Neal Hurston, Alice Walker, Toni Morrison, and Louise Erdrich. Prerequisites: ENG 1530, ENG 1540
