ENG 7503 - The History of Rock and Roll

Institution:
Jamestown Community College
Subject:
English
Description:
This course presents, through music, videotapes, lecture and field trip, the history and significance of 50 years of rock and roll music. As perhaps the dominant mode of popular cultural expression in the 20th century, rock and roll provides one means of understanding the world in which we live. Using an historical approach, this course will demonstrate rock and roll's power to influence thought, style, and the overal culture. For an inside look at the lives and the stories behind the music, the class will travel to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. The museum features dynamic interactive exhibits and a rotation of artifact and costume displays. Relive the glory days and feel the music as you experience and learn about the most powerful cultural art form of the modern world. The group will enjoy dinner at one of Cleveland's music-themed restaurants such as Fat Fish Blue or the Hard Rock Cafe. Cost to each student will range from $50-75.
