This course is intended to provide critical awareness of the prevailing practice and philosophy of restorative justice, principally in the United States. By examining the needs and obligations of all stakeholders (victims, offenders, communities, justice systems) in dealing with the aftermath of crime, this course will take a critical look at traditional government responses to crime in the United States and examine how the principles and practice of an approach broadly known as restorative justice may improve that response, as well as examine the challenges of a restorative approach. Prerequisite: CRI 1510 Campus and term: J occasionally
