SURI - Tier II is part of a larger course whereby students will engage in undergraduate research and participate in activities with the larger interdisciplinary scientific community at JCC. Tier II SURI students are advanced students who will be ready to read and interpret literature as well as design, perform and interpret experiments. They will develop skills that any good technician should have (e.g. ability to design and interpret experiments, make reagents, use laboratory equipment, follow safety procedures, keep effective lab notes, etc.) But they will also be expected to understand the scientific relevance of their research. Students will also attend a Science Colloquium along with members of the larger scientific community. During these shared times students will read, present and assess scientific literature relevant to the research of participating PIs. With a keen on their level of education, at the end of the semester, students will participte in a group presentation whereby Tier II students will display proficiency in explaining their results in context of the greater body of knowledge in their field. Prerequisite: 1000 level course relevant to the field (e.g. Bio 1570 or Introduction to Biotechnology) and a 2000 level course relevant to the PIs research
