The purpose of this course is to discuss important ideas from modern biology and biotechnology that are used in the media and society in general and relate them to scientific fact. Students will be instructed in scientific method and process as well as the modern technology available to tease apart science fiction from science fact. They will aslo explore biotechnology concepts that relate to real life like forensics, genealogy and deep ancestry. In the process, they will learn the different between discovery-based science and hypothesis-driven and no science at all. Corequisite: ENG 1510 or Eligibility ENG 1530.
