SURI Tier I is part of a larger course whereby students will engage in undergraduate research and participate in activities with the larger interdisciplinary scientific community at JCC. Tier I will focus on those skills needed to be a good technician, for example being able to design, perform and interpret experiments, make reagents, use laboratory equipment, follow safety procedures, keep effective lab notes, etc. Students will also attend a Science Colloquium along with members of the larger scientific community. During these shared times students will read, present and assess scientific literature relevant to the research of participating PIs with an emphasis on the techniques used. At the end of the semester, students will participte in a group presentation whereby Tier I students will display proficiency in explaining the techniques used. Perequisite: 1000 level course relavent to the field (ie BIO 1570 or Intoduction to Biotechnology); Eligibility: ENG 1510 and reading score of 80+
