ENVG 67650 - Molecular Scale Characterization Using imaging and Spectroscopy

Institution:
University of Notre Dame
Subject:
Environmental Geosciences
Description:
This graduate level interdisciplinary course covers the fundamental theoretical and analytical framework for X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (XAFS) including the near edge region (XANES) and the extended edge region (EXAFS) and scanning probe microscopy imaging methods including atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) used in the molecular scale characterization of environmental/biological/engineering materials. In addition, the course offers hands on instruction in AFM, STM and a short XAFS training session. Course notes will be provided.
