Taking a historical perspective, the course examines ideologies, social institutions, nd representations of women and and gender. Specific topics explored include Confucian ideas regarding women and gender, the family system, marriage and concubinage, sex and sexuality, the phenomenon of footbinding, and women's liberation in twentieth-century Chinese revolution.
