Description:
Romanesque art between 950-1200, including architecture, metalwork, painting and sculpture. The importance of relics, pilgrimage, and the different monastic orders is studied, and attention is given to such issues as function and meaning in Romanesque sculpture. The course includes visits to sites in Ireland and some of the teaching takes place in the Treasury of the National Museum.
