A study of human effects on the environment and on the functioning of the Earth’s ecosystems. Topics are taught from a biological perspective and include pollution, world population, agriculture, biodiversity, energy, climate changes, genetically modified organisms and use of natural resources. Prerequisites: BI111 and 112 or BI115 and 116, and CH111;112, CH113;114, or permission of chairperson. 3 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory or field work, one semester; 4 credits. Offered as needed.
