This class will discuss the entire process of getting one's book published and gives an introduction to marketing the published work. Topics include the following: Preparing one's manuscript for publication; copywriting: protecting your work; Importance of citation (guarding against plagiarism); learn how to identify your market: discuss different genres; discuss the role of Literacy Agents; discuss what every writer needs to know about the publishing industry; self-publishing vs. tradition publishing: pro's and cons; how to pick a publisher: the difference between traditional and subsidy publishing; how to form a book proposal and pitch your work; corresponding with potential publishers; writing for magazines; discuss how to market one's book after publishing; discuss the role of the publisher's PR department; resoruces for writers and creating a circle of influence.
