This course is intended to introduce the student to various aspects of cancer, including the biological events leading to cancer; chemical, genetic, and behavioral risk factors; cancer treatments; and future trends in dealing with the United States' second leading killer. As a result of taking this course, students will be able to: 1. describe the biological events involved in the transformation of a normal cell to a cancer cell; 2. identify and critically analyze risk factors for cancer; 3. describe, compare and contrast mechanisms of current and future cancer treatments. The course will untilize case studies and video interviews with cancer survivors.
