In this class we will examine psychoactive substances, including legal, illegal, and therapeutic drugs. We will consider the history and social implications of drug use, as well as examine the issues of drug dependence and treatment for dependence. We will place special emphasis on the biological elements of drug use and abuse. Current information derived from empirical research reports and other academic sources is emphasized. Prerequisite: PSY 101. Equivalent to PSY 353.
