CHM 385 - Conference Preparation

Institution:
Saint Martin's University
Subject:
Description:
This course is designed to prepare students to attend a scientific conference, such as the national meeting of the American Chemical Society. During the course, students will learn how to read scientific journal articles, write about what they read, and learn to do literature research. They will also investigate the session offerings at the conference, read abstracts, and decide on a schedule of seminar sessions that they plan to attend at the conference. This schedule may also include specific programming for undergraduate students, since many conferences offer undergraduate programming designed to encourage interest in graduate school, inform them about graduate school options, and advise them in how best to apply. Students who have done research in a scientific field will be encouraged to present their research in either a poster or presentation. All students who participate in the class will be able to attend the conference. May be repeated for credit. Prerequisite: permission.
