The student will solve problems in drawing, painting and printmaking, as well as explore the development of two-dimensional design in Western culture and the art styles of other cultures. Course covers decorating flat surfaces; vitality of line; perspective drawing; art ideas from other cultures; techniques of painting; fantasy in design; simplification (its part in history and contemporary art); printmaking; symbolism; the power of distortion; and the search for artistic ideas.
