This course is designed to introduce students to social welfare policies and issues in the United States. A study of historical and contemporary legislative as well as political reaction to the social and economic problems that confront society will be systemically analyzed. There will be an emphasis on current welfare structures and how to influence the development of social policy. (SWK 319-American Social Welfare Institutions listed in the previous bulletin meets the minimum criterion for this course and is an acceptable substitute for credit.) Prerequisites: SWK 200, 201, and POLS 201.
