Description:
This course will introduce students to the study of bacterial genetics. Basic topics include DNA, RNA, and protein synthesis and the mechanisms bacteria use to regulate these processes. Also, the molecular and biochem- ical basis of mutation and gene transfer will be studied. Bacteriophase genetics will be covered in order to under- stand their importance in molecular genetics, biochemistry and biotechnology. Selected laboratory exercises will be integrated with the lecture throughout the semester. Enroll- ment in this course is limited to students in the Micro- Biology Track. However, other biology students may take this course upon approval by the coordinator of Micro- biology Track. Prerequisites: BIO 325,460, and acceptance into the Microbiology Track.
