Description:
The student is required to spend a minimum of 100 clock hours at a selected school, agency or college/university, working under supervision with clients/students. During that time, the student is expected to increase his or her competence in the areas of basic interviewing, assessment, and counseling skills. Furthermore, the student will be made more aware of the ethical, legal, and professional issues inherent in the counseling process. The student is provided practical, on-the-job, supervised and evaluated field experiences that provide the foundation for internship experiences. A weekly seminar class accompanies the fieldwork experience, which will focus on discussion of the theory and practice of supervision vis-à-vis the practicum. Prerequisite: COUN 656.
