This seminar will explore the chemical underpinnings some of the major technological changes of the 20th century. Topics will include explosives, hydrocarbon fuels, polymers, fertilizers and agricultural chemicals, drugs, and consumer products. The discovery and implementation of key chemical technologies will be discussed. The economic, environmental, health, and life-style consequences will be considered. No specific chemical knowledge.
