This course examines the role of the Supreme Court in the U.S. political, social and economic system. It surveys the historical record of the Court in major policy areas; examines the internal politics of Supreme Court decision-making; and focuses onthe Court's role in formulating policy. Special attention is devoted to assessing the overall role of the Court as a public policy-making institution, examining the relationship between the Court's policies, democracy and the changing economic order.
