This seminar serves as a graduate-level introduction to some of the topics, texts, methods, and normative assumptions of the field of bioethics. In addition to being exposed to these aspects of the field, students will be asked to think critically about them. The course begins with an examination of informed consent and considers other topics in relation to this doctrine and the assumptions and values that ground it. Topics include ethical issues regarding: treatment refusal, organ transplantation, research, genetics, public health, and resource allocation.
