Students will follow the well-established tradition of separating bioethics from philosophy of medicine. The focus will be primarily epistemological and metaphysical. The course assumes no specific philosophic or medical background. Readings will cover classic problems and questions in the philosophy of medicine, such as: What is the philosophy of medicine? What is the nature of health and disease? What are the social and political dimensions of medicine?
