Institution:
Orange County Community College
Subject:
Non-Credit
Description:
We will read novels together, discussing the elements of fiction (character, setting, plot, point of view, theme) and constructing interpretations. Following each novel we will view the film derived from the novel, paying attention to elements of film making (camera techniques, lighting, special effects, sound, acting, mise-en-scene) and the means by which the director and others (actors, cinematographer, art direstor, editor) have necessarily interpreted the novel. Students should purchase "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee, "Ragtime" by E.L. Doctorow and "The Color Purple" by Alice Walker. You should read " To Kill A Mockingbird" before the first class.
