This semester long program consists of 147 classroom hours of training & will include 30 hours on human growth & development; 12 hours on relapse prevention; 30 hours on counseling skills; 9 hours on AIDS, communicable diseases & related counseling issues; 6 hours on vocational educational counseling; 30 hours on experiential workgroups; 30 hours on special population training including some or all of the following topics: suicide risk assessment & prevention;addictions & co-existing psych disorders; alcohol & the adolescent; women & alcoholism; multi-cultural issues; and working with lesbian, gay, bi-sexual & transgender clients. Attendance & participation is required in all sessions in order to receive a certificate of completion. Students who do not complete all hours within each topic due to absence(s) may make up the absence when the topic is offered again next year or may elect to attend personal make-up instruction at an additional cost.
