This course is designed for graduate students who have already completed a minimum of a bachelor's degree and are seeking an endorsement to become highly qualified to teach general science at the elementary and middle school level. As such the course is aligned to the Illinois Content Standards for Educators in Science, Physical Science and Physics and the National Teachers of Science standards for elementary and middle school teachers. Topics are consistent with those in a standard physics course for non-physics majors with an emphasis on core concepts, activities metacognative processes appropriate to the elementary and middle school classroom. Course is designed to focus on inquiry, constructing knowledge, scientific reasoning, investigations and interdisciplinary concepts as well as real world and classroom connections.
