Challenges conventional notions of the status quo through the inverstigation of social historical and comparative perspectives on change including political ideas, practices, cleavages, and commonalities within communities and between peoples and nations. Focuses on how power and democracy become intimate bedfellows whose partnership has radically different consequences for different groups of people in society.
