Description:
This course covers the teaching of writing in the intermediate and upper grades. Mini-lesson design and placement, methods and strategies for teaching sentence completeness, for teaching sentence structure, and for punctuation and capitalization are covered. In addition, students will learn methodology that will be useful and effective with writing genres (e.g. expository, descriptive) and the research paper. The assessment of writing (e.g. rubrics, conferenceing, portfolios) approaches for language-and-dialect different learners, and uses of technology in writing instruction. Finally, program issues are approached: the development of writer's workshop, and writing across the curriculum.
