This course will examine the process of economic transition underway in Poland. The transition process from a centrally planned Soviet style economy to a market economy will be studied focusing on the emerging theory of economic transition and the nature of institutional change necessary for a successful transition. In addition, the course will involve a study trip to Poland to visit Warsaw School of Economics, the University of Warsaw, and the National Bank of Poland. These visits will allow students to learn from the participants directly involved in the transition process.
