Institution:
Franklin College - Indiana
Subject:
Description:
Throughout history people have found it important on occasion to withdraw from normal activities to experience renewal, to meditate, to draw closer to God. Recently such places have become more accessible to lay persons. This course will explore a variety of resources for spiritual renewal: Russian Orthodox, Ukranian Catholic, Roman Catholic, Quaker, Zen Buddhist, Hindu and the Labyrinth. Most of the course will be spent in the San Francisco area, staying a couple days in each monastery or retreat center. All are expected to participate in the daily services (occasionally early in the morning). We will read a classic text in spirituality for each tradition while living there. There will be a couple of free days in San Francisco. (Satisfies one intercultural requirement.) Prerequisites: Fees:$850 plus some meals.
