This course will examine the history, culture, and ethnic composition of the Southeast Asian nation of Vietnam. It will do so through in-class readings, films, discussions, and written assignments during the first week and last weeks of Winter Term, and through extensive travel in Vietnam for thirteen days hosted by the Vietnam-USA Society based in Hanoi. Satisfies one intercultural requirement. Prerequisite: None Fees: Approx. $2,000 plus passport, visa, medical costs, and spending money in Vietnam. (please see Prof. Lloyd Hunter for details)
