This course will meet for two weeks on campus, and then depart on Monday, January 15th, 2001, for two weeks in three countries-Israel, Jordan, and Greece. We will explore Jewish, Jordanian, and Greek cultures, the three monotheistic religions-Judaism, Islam, and Orthodox Christianity, and four different civilizations-Jewish, Nabatean, Islamic, and Byzantine, with special attention given to archaeological and religious sites and remains. A familiarization study would also be made of the Middle Eastern conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians and the present possibilities for peace. Satisfies one intercultural requirement. Prerequisite: Permission of Instructor. Fees: $2,750 (includes everything minus passport & souvenirs.)
