Description:
This course is an eco-travel course through several parks and nature preserves in south Florida. The course will include three or four days of intensive, on-campus preparation followed by 12 days of travel using a 14 passenger van. The trip will include several structured tours of state parks, wilderness preserves, and extensive investigation of the Everglades National Park. Time for individual and small group explorations will also be available. Hiking, bicycling, canoeing, and snorkel diving will also be important components of the trip. Close encounters with birds, alligators, manatees, exotic fish, and dolphins are planned for the trip. While students are not expected to have experience, a willingness to try new experiences and hike extensively are key requirements. Modest, shared accommodations will be provided in hotels and park lodges. Upon returning to campus, students will prepare final reports presented on web-pages. Grading will be based on quizzes, journals, research reports, and final reports.
