Institution:
Franklin College - Indiana
Subject:
Description:
After one week practicing Spanish conversation in Franklin, the class will spend three weeks in Venezuela. We will stay with Venezuelan families in Merida, high in the Andes Mountains, where the temperature is around 70 degrees year round. Merida, population 130,000, is the home of the University of the Andes. We will have access to the university for further instruction in Spanish and email privileges. Nearby is Pico Bolivar, a mountain over 16,000 feet, and other sightseeing attractions. There are may possibilities for side trips in Venezuela, including tropical rivers, Caribbean beaches and the major cities of Caracas and Maracaibo. During our first week of class we will decide democratically which side trips would be most interesting and still fit within out budget. Because of the effectiveness of the immersion method of learning a foreign language, there are no Spanish prerequisites, although some knowledge of Spanish would be helpful. Satisfies one intercultural requirement. Prerequisite: None Fees: $1,800 (airfare, room and board with Venezuelan families, side trips)
