This course will explore the life and works of C. S. Lewis, one of the most popular, prolific, and imaginative writers of the 20th century. An Oxford scholar and adult convert to Christianity, his writings deal with timeless questions: What is truth? Does God exist? How can a loving God allow suffering? We will examine Lewis' treatment of these and other questions through some of his most popular and enduring works in genres ranging from children's literature to theology and ethics. The course will center around discussion of assigned readings along with student projects on Lewis' life and secondary works. Also included will be a visit to the Marion E. Wade Center at Wheaton College, which houses a collection of rare Lewis items and memorabilia. Prerequisites: None. Extra Fees: Field trip to Wheaton, IL. expenses. Instructor: Robert Talbert. A-F grading.
