TRAVEL COURSE - This course will examine the influences of Ibsen's native land on his groundbreaking body of plays. We will travel to the significant Ibsen and theatre museums in Norway (in Oslo, Grimstad, and Skien) as well as to Bergen (site of the National Theatre, where Ibsen worked professionally, and of the Bergen Theatre Museum and Archives). In addition, we will visit examples of locations that appeared in Ibsen's works: a fjord, a forest, a spa, and some period homes. And we will visit Telemark University, where an Ibsen scholar will provide us with local insight into the playwright's work. Prerequisites: None. Extra Fees: $2195, plus personal expenses. Instructor: Michael Swanson. A-F grading. Satisfies one intercultural requirement.
