The course will bring your reading up to date! Who are some of the good writers of this new millennium? And what's happening in new fiction from outside the United States? Read a selection of books written within the past five years, by authors from the U.S. and other countries. The focus of the course will be on novels, although it may include a few short-story selections. Students will be expected to apply basic terms from literary studies (such as imagery, symbolism, theme, plot, characterization) and prepare written analyses and interpretations of passages and themes from the readings. Prerequisites: GE 101 or equivalent. Extra Fees: Possibly attending a play. Instructor: Jayne Marek. A-F grading. Satisfies one intercultural requirement.
